Therapy for Teens with Big Emotions
(Telehealth in Pennsylvania)
Being a teen can already feel intense. When emotions run high, it can start to feel overwhelming and confusing, both for teens and the people who care about them. Many of the teens I work with feel things deeply and struggle to slow down or make sense of what’s happening inside.
Therapy offers a space to pause, feel understood, and learn how to handle emotions in a way that feels more manageable. This work is not about fixing who you are. It’s about building understanding, learning real skills, and finding steadier ways to get through hard moments.
When emotions feel hard to manage
Teens often come to therapy because they are experiencing:
Intense emotional reactions that feel hard to control
Anxiety, shutdowns, or spiraling thoughts
Anger or outbursts that cause conflict at home or school
Feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or “too much”
Difficulty with self-worth or feeling stuck
These experiences can feel isolating. Therapy helps teens feel less alone and more capable of handling what they’re dealing with.
How therapy helps
In therapy, we work on understanding emotions and learning how to respond to them differently. Sessions focus on:
Increasing emotional awareness
Learning skills to manage intense feelings
Understanding patterns and triggers
Practicing new ways of responding to stress and conflict
Some sessions are focused on skills. Others are more reflective. The work always meets the teen where they are and moves at a pace that feels safe and supportive.
What sessions are like
Therapy sessions are collaborative and practical. Teens are encouraged to be honest, even when things feel messy or confusing. My role is to offer guidance, structure, and support while helping teens build confidence in their ability to handle life’s challenges.
I also work closely with parents when appropriate, so teens are supported both in and outside of sessions.
Who this is a good fit for
Therapy may be a good fit for teens who:
Experience big emotions or emotional overwhelm
Want help understanding themselves better
Are open to learning new skills
Feel stuck or frustrated by recurring patterns
This may not be the right fit for teens needing crisis-level services or those who are not ready for therapy.
